Introduction:

Hello! Welcome to Introduction to Crochet! I’m Kennedy and I will be the instructor for this crochet course. When I was about nine years old, my great- grandmother taught me to crochet. Since then, I have never stopped crocheting, and my passion for it continues to grow. I now set up at markets and sell through Etsy the items that I crochet. I’m so thrilled to be given the opportunity to share this hobby with others!

Course Description:

This class is designed for fourth graders and up who have a strong will to learn something new and fun. This eight-week course (1 hour per week) will teach the basics of crochet through simple crochet projects. These projects include learning to crochet a simple bracelet, scrunchie, dishcloth, and headband.

At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Have an overall knowledge of crochet — the technique and the differences between knitting and crocheting.
  • Identify crochet supplies.
  • Identify the difference between cotton and acrylic fibers.
  • Demonstrate basic stitches of crochet taught in this course.

Course Materials

All materials will be provided within the course. This includes all yarn, crochet hooks, etc. Parents do not need to worry about providing any of these.

Homework Policy

I want my students to love to crochet. I encourage them to try and experiment on their own. This is one of the best ways to succeed with crochet. Practice makes perfect! To get the most out of this class, I would like students to work on the projects that I give them at home. The next class they attend, I will answer any questions and help them out with anything they may be having trouble with.

A Note to Lefties:

I am right-handed. It is difficult to crochet left-handed due to always crocheting right-handed, so it would be extremely difficult trying to teach someone in that way. I will not teach lefties to crochet unless they are willing to learn the right-handed way.
