Melanie Collins is the logic stage Humanities Day teacher. Mother of two and a wife of an amazing husband, Mrs. Collins feels blessed to have such a wonderful family and a unique, exciting career.
Her undergraduate degree is from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts where she attended the Stella Adler Conservatory of Acting. Studying, performing, and watching Shakespeare and Chekov plays remain among her favorite NYC memories. After traveling abroad and working and living in Minneapolis, she returned to her mountain roots in pursuit of God’s call on her life. She attended West Virginia University and obtained her Master’s in English Education. Her love of teaching grew as she spent twelve years teaching English at the secondary level.
During the 2020-2021 school year, Mrs. Collins led a homeschool cooperative group where she provided daily lesson plans and tutoring for English Language Arts. She homeschooled her two children as well. This experience enriched and deepened her relationship with Christ, her family, her students, and her career. Through prayer and guidance from Veritas Classical Schools in Charleston, South Carolina and Atlanta, GA, she discovered and embraced the beauty and logic of a classical Christian education and the collaborative model of teaching/learning. Mrs. Collins is excited to teach English Language Arts alongside history at Veritas Classical School. She has a love of the content that she teaches and prays to instill a love of learning in the hearts and minds of her students.
In her few spare moments, Mrs. Collins enjoys story time with her kids, writing, running, hiking and kayaking with her family, cooking, and diagramming sentences. In fact, she has never met a sentence that she does not want to diagram. Her family is blessed to worship with Chestnut Ridge Church.
